Two students were drowned in a temple pond at Thuravur near here on Monday morning.

According to the Kuthiathode police, the two, Ananthu and Tony, both aged 17, had come to the pond of the Thirumala Devaswom Mahakshetram this morning to have a bath along with another friend. All three were Plus One students of the T.D. High School nearby. According to the police, the three swam to the middle of the pond, which was deeper than the rest. While one of them managed to swim to safety, the other two could not and were drowned.

Fire force personnel and locals retrieved the bodies around 11.30 a.m., a couple of hours after the trio were seen entering the temple premises. The bodies were handed over to relatives after post-mortem. Ananthu is the son of Suresh Babu, a resident of the 12th ward of Thuravur panchayat, while Tony is the son of athrose, who resides in Ward 11 of the Kodanthuruthu panchayat.
