Two minor girls sexually assaulted in Kollam

Six men and a boy arrested in two cases

Six men and a boy were arrested on Friday in connection with two cases of sexual assault on minor girls in the district.

In a case registered by the Punalur police, the victim is 9 years old and in the other case registered by the Ochira police, the victim is 15 years old.

At Punalur, the incident took place at a Scheduled Communities colony at Karavuloor.

On noticing the girl tired and disturbed at school, the teacher informed the school authorities who took her to the Punalur Taluk Hospital, where tests confirmed sexual assault.

The police and Childline authorities were immediately informed. Investigators found that that the victim had been subjected to sexual assault by the culprits for the past many months.

Two neighbours of the victim, including a minor, were arrested on the charge of abusing the girl. The identity of the other accused was disclosed as Rajesh, 18.

Juvenile home

The minor was produced before a juvenile court and sent to juvenile home. The other person was produced before a magistrate court at Punalur and remanded in the Kottarakara Sub Jail.

At Oachira, the victim, appearing for SSLC examinations, was abducted by a five-member gang of youngsters from her house on Thursday.

Known to victim

Her grandfather who offered resistance was knocked down by the gang. The police said one of the culprits was known to the victim.

The police rescued the girl and arrested the youth from a house at Kayamkulam late in the night.

Medical examination at the District Hospital confirmed sexual assault of the victim.

The police identified the accused as Manu, 20, Akhil, 19, Pradeep, 18, Vishnu, 18, and Ananthu 20.

They were produced before a magistrate court at Karunagapally and remanded in the district jail.
