Two persons were killed when the car they were traveling in rammed a tanker lorry near Thumboli on the National Highway-47 early on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, the two persons were identified later as Robin Thomas Varghese, 35, Kandathilkuzhiyil house, Othara West, Pathanamthitta and Samkutty Kurian, 36, Chakalayil House, Othara,

Pathanamthitta. The two were on their way back to Pathanamthitta from the Nedumbassery Airport after seeing off Samkutty’s father, C.T. Kurian around 4.30 a.m. when the accident occurred.

Police suspect that the driver of the car could have fallen asleep at the wheel, since the driver of the tanker lorry, which was on its way to Ernakulam, said he saw the car coming on the wrong side and had almost stopped. By the time police and Fire & Rescue personnel extracted the passengers from the mangled car, both had died.

The bodies were taken to the Alappuzha Medical College, where they were handed over to relatives after post-mortem. Robin is survived by his wife Reena and an 18-month-old daughter, Ruth while Samkutty is survived by his wife Jincy and two-and-half-year-old daughter, Manna.
