In a crackdown on thriving inter-state drug smuggling being operated from Uppala town, police on Wednesday has seized five kg ganja and arrested two persons.

The seizure was carried by a team of police led by Kumbla Circle Inspector T. P. Ranjith who arrested one Hassainar (36), a resident of Songali near Uppala and Ahammed (55) and recovered the drug in a raid that was carried out following tip off around 11 a.m., police said.

The drug weighing three kg, kept in a bag, was recovered from the house of Hassainar who was rounded up after his house was surrounded by the raiding party. The remaining drug was kept in an open place from the residential premises of Ahammed, they said.

The duo confessed that the drug was meant to be sold to customers as the region is virtually facing serious threats from the activities of inter-state drug mafia elements, the police said.
