A start-up initiative of students trained under the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) in the district was launched here on Sunday.

The group of youngsters, modelled on a self-help collective of skilled service professionals who are trained to offer services ranging from plumbing to computer hardware maintenance, has been given skill training as part of the Smart India initiative conceived by ASAP in the district. The young trained entrepreneurs have been selected from among the beneficiaries of ASAP in the district.

Minister for Agriculture K.P. Mohanan inaugurated the Smart India initiative at a function here on Sunday. A.P. Abdullakutty, MLA, presided.

District panchayat president K.A. Sarala, ASAP Chief Executive Officer M.T. Reju, ASAP district programme manager Smitha Sukumaran and North Malabar Chamber of Commerce former president C. Jayachandran were among those present at the function.

The group of selected young entrepreneurs will serve as service professionals trained in various works including plumbing, designing, computer maintenance and hotel management works.
