Tribesman trampled to death by elephant

A 50-year-old tribesman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in the Pathiri South forest, under the Chethalayath range of the South Wayanad forest division, on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Chandran of Chullikad hamlet, a Kattunayakka tribal hamlet inside the forest, at Neykuppa, near Pulpally, in the district.

An elephant chased Chandran and his brother Raju around 8.30 p.m. on Saturday while they were returning home through a forest path after work. While Raju managed to escape, the elephant attacked Chandran, causing serious injuries, range officer P. Ranjithkumar said.
