: Mathi,60, of the Annimoola Kattunayakka tribal settlement at Vadakkanad, near Sulthan Bathery, died of fever at the Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode on Thursday.
Mathi was admitted to the Taluk hospital at Sulthan Bathery a week ago with symptoms of suspected Kysanur Forest Disease (KFD or Monkey Fever). Later she was referred to the MCH.
However, the district Health Department officials said they were yet to confirm the exact reason for the death. “Blood samples collected from the deceased have been sent to the Manipal Centre for Virus Research (MCVR) in Karnataka for further analysis and we are awaiting the results,” Health Department sources said.
Meanwhile the officials confirmed one more KFD death in the district.
The deceased was identified as Sulekha,42, of Kayyalakkal at Kuppadi, near Sulthan Bathery, in the district. Sulekha ,who was an Asha worker, died of KFD at the MCH on February 27.
The blood samples collected from the deceased had been tested at MCVR and it was positive, K.R. Vidya, Deputy District Medical Officer, told The Hindu . Earlier, four tribesmen had died of the disease in the district in a month. Four suspected KFD cases had been reported in the district on Thursday.
