Tribal channel goes on air

April 14, 2010 04:11 pm | Updated 04:11 pm IST - AGALI (PALAKKAD):

Forest Minister Benoy Viswom has said that the influence of money power in elections will destroy democratic values and institutions if urgent steps are not taken to arrest the tendency.

Inaugurating a local TV channel that broadcast news bulletins in a local tribal language along with Malayalam and Tamil at Agali in Attappady on Tuesday, the Minister said that big money now influenced every sphere of life. It is trying to control the media in a big way and this will result in the marginalised and poor sections of society not getting their problems highlighted in the media.

So local channels that highlight the problems of the poor and deprived sections should come up to stop the onslaught of big money on the media.

The Minister launched ‘Channel Plus' by reading news in the tribal language. Deputy Speaker Jose Baby inaugurated the studio of the channel on the occasion. Chairman of the channel V.M. Latheef and director P. Sharafudeen spoke.
