Tribal art fete to begin today

The Kerala Adivasi Forum will organise Uruvu-2010, a three-day art and cultural festival, at the Chembai Memorial Government Music College here from August 7 as part of World Tribal Day on August 9.

Writer Vaishakhan will inaugurate the event on August 7 and anthropologist P.R.G. Mathur will deliver the keynote address.

A pageantry of tribal art and folk forms will be inaugurated by writer Charu Nivedita.

The inaugural function will be addressed by South Indian Adivasi Federation president Balan Thalavadi, and writers C.V. Balakrishnan and Mundur Sethumadhavan. It will be presided over by C. Raghavan, State president, Adivasi Forum.

The art and culture of 21 tribal sects will be presented during the festival. George Thenadikulam will talk on ‘Tribal life and art;' Pradeep Pampirikunnu on ‘The challenges faced by tribal culture;' and K. Chandran and K. Rajan on ‘The future of tribal art forms.'
