Traffic arrangement in Kumily during Sabarimala pilgrimage season

The Kumily grama panchayat traffic committee has made elaborate arrangement in connection with the rush in Kumily town during the Mandala-Makaravilakku Sabarimala pilgrimage season.

There will be parking facilities on the four side of the roads in the main town. During the season heavy traffic is witnessing in areas from Thekkady junction to Vandanmedu junction and to meet this, one-way traffic will be made through the Thekkady bypass road, it was decided at a meeting of the traffic committee held on Saturday. The telephone posts which are not in use will be removed and street vendors will not be allowed on the pathway.

Bus stops will be allowed only on the Vyapara Bhavan junction and KSRTC junction after the bus stand. Autorikshaw stands will be allowed only in Kumily bus stand, Ambalappady, Onnam Mile, Attappallom, Chelimada, Kollam Pattada, Holiday Home, Kulathhoppalam, Thekkady junction and Ambadikkavala. Autorikshas will be provided with panchayat-police register numbers and the drivers will be given photo-affixed identity cards. Vehicle parking will not be allowed from Thekkady junction to Post Office junction.

It was also decided to erect sign boards written in various languages to provide direction to the drivers.

The arrangements needed in the panchayat during the season will be taken in co-operation with the Tamil Nadu police and the Gudallur municipality Buses will not be allowed parking on the roads on the premises of the government school and repair works of the vehicles will not be allowed on the road side.

The traffic committee meeting was attended by grama panchayat president V.Ponraj, circle inspector Rakesh and representatives of drivers' unions.
