The Kerala Vyapari Vyavasai Ekopana Samiti (KVVES) will go on a shutdown on July 11 in protest against the ‘faulty implementation’ of the newly rolled out Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Kerala.
KVVES leaders said on Wednesday that the shops of its members would remain shut from dawn to dusk that day against the ‘apathy of the government’ in addressing the traders’ concerns and the ‘failure in controlling the GST’s impact on prices.’
KVVES State secretariat member K. Sethumadhavan said the government was maintaining silence on the public protest against the price hike of some essential commodities after the GST rollout. “People believe that traders are charging unfairly. However, traders have no role in the current crisis,” he said.

Mr. Sethumadhavan also alleged that enforcement squads were unfairly targeting traders on the basis of public grievances about the recent price rise. Traders should be given at least three months to get acquainted with the GST regulations, he demanded.
