Tourism spots in Kannur to be developed

Various tourism spots in district to be marked on Google Map for easy identification

The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has decided to develop and renovate various tourist spots in the district.

A press release issued here on Tuesday briefing the decisions of the DTPC executive committee meeting identified various tourism spots for development and renovation. The works listed include renovation of the Sea View Park and Overbury’s Folly picnic spot at Thalassery; the second phase of the Vellikkeel ecotourism project and of the pathway from Dharmashala to Parassinikkadavu; the river view park at Pazhayangadi and Vannathipuzha; Mangalassery boat race pavilions; Puralimala ecotourism park; backwater tourism project at Payyannur; evening park at Koothuparamba; Padannakkara-Pinarayi road renovation; Paithalmala tourism project; boat race pavillion at Pazhayangadi; boat terminal at Parassinikkadavu; Payyannur heritage tourism project; and Payyambalam beach beautification.

Plastic-free

The release said the meeting decided to implement a comprehensive project for making tourism centres in the district plastic-free. Steps would also be taken to mark tourism spots in the district on the Google Map to help tourists spot those places easily and get information. A tourism information counter would be opened at the Kannur railway station. Another information counter would also be started at the upcoming airport when it was operational

The DTPC executive committee also decided to start toilet facilities in tourist spots where there were no such facilities.

Kayaking

Kayaking facility would be started in various centres, it said adding that required lifeguards would be appointed at Meenkunnu, Dharmadam, Choottad and Chemballikkundu.

DTPC chairman and Collector Mir Mohammed Ali presided. T.V. Rajesh, MLA, and Muzhappilangad panchayat president M.P. Habis were among those present at the meeting.
