The body of a toddler, who had gone missing in the Karamana river a week ago, was recovered on Thursday.

The police said the child had gone missing after her mother Sheethal, 22, of Kathikkampara in Uzhamalakkal had jumped into the river along with her at Alliyavoor, near Aryanad, on December 1. The police suspected that the woman had been suffering from depression following her divorce. While Sheethal’s body had been found by the Aryanad police the next day, the child’s body could not be located.

The inclement weather had made the search difficult. A Fire and Rescue Services team managed to recover the child’s body at Karanadu, near Aryanad, on Thursday.
