Tips for conservation of Pampa

An expert team of the Pampa Parirakshana Samithi has suggested certain key points for the conservation of river Pampa.

The study report has recommended declaration of river Pampa as a biodiversity heritage site and development of four to five-metre wide eco-tone on either river banks.

The other major recommendations mentioned in the study report are:

1. Raise the riverbed by constructing a series of small check dams.

2. Rejuvenation of various tributaries.

3. Implementation of different methods of rain water harvesting to raise the ground water level.

4. Demarcation of the boundaries of Pampa and its tributaries.

5. Implementation of a sustainable water regime management with the help of various Central government schemes such as the Western Ghats Development Plan, MGNREGS, and Integrated Water Management Plan.

6. Promote eco-tourism and small hydroelectric projects.

7. Organise environmental education and awareness campaign.

8. Formulation and implementation of an integrated water resource development plan in the Pampa river basin.
