As part of World Environment Day (June 5) observance, the district panchayat, in association with the Forest Department, has set up an artificial sacred grove at the Public Library hall.
This is to spread awareness of the role such forests play to keep the environment healthy and the importance of protecting and conserving such ecosystems.
The focus is on the younger generation. The visitors are given a detailed explanation of the history and role of sacred groves.
The theme of the show is ‘Development and environment protection.’ The district panchayat has evolved special projects for environment protection, says a press release issued here.
District panchayat Secretary K. Anil Kumar says the district has 500 acres of sacred groves left. The artificial grove is attracting a good number of visitors, he says. The show will conclude on Sunday.
