The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is on a mission to take Thrissur’s tourism across the seven seas.

The council recently conducted a ‘familiarisation tour’ programme in Thrissur for representatives of all major airline companies.

In all, 12 airlines from 10 countries such as Sri Lankan Airways, Qatar Airways, Oman Airways, Kenyan Airways, Kuwait Airways, Fly Dubai, Air Arabia, Air Asia, Malindo Air, Jet Airways, Indigo Airline, and Spice Jet attended the programme conducted by the DTPC.

The team was given a traditional welcome at Lulu International Convention Centre here with a Onam Sadhya. There was a presentation of tourist interests in Thrissur.

The land of festivals and mixed cultures, Thrissur has myriad tourist attractions to offer thoughout the year. However, the tourist potential of Thrissur is yet to be tapped, said Catholic Syrian Bank Director T.S. Anantharaman.

M.R. Gopalakrishnan, Managing Director, Kadappuram Resort, noted that Thrissur should have a inventory of leisure hotels. Christian Durol, a French Tour Operator, who operates services from Thissur, stressed the need to have ready-to-offer tour programmes for tourists.

The team left after witnessing the traditional folk art form of Pulikkali on the fourth Onam day.
