Three killed as buses collide

Three people, including a woman, were killed and several others injured when two private buses coming from opposite directions collided head on at Punnad near Iritty here on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Jijo (38) and Suresh (38), drivers of the buses involved in the collision, and Girija (36), passenger.

The police said that the accident occurred in the forenoon.

The private bus named ‘Prasad’ from Mattannur to Iritty and another bus named ‘Marymatha’ going to the opposite route collided on the State Highway.

Nearly 40 passengers suffered minor injuries in the accident. They have been admitted or given first-aid treatment at hospitals at Iritty and here.
