Three day global conference of FCRI from Jan. 18

The Secretary of Union Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises S. Sundareshan will visit Instrumentation Limited (IL), a public sector company under the ministry, and hold discussions on the problem faced by it due to the heavy loss of the company in other States.

There were demands from the employees for the merger of IL with BHEL for which it is making various components. Though the Palakkad unit of IL is making profit it is not able to expand or provide better facilities to the employees due to the loss made by its other units, the Employees organizations here said.

They said that visit of the Union Heavy Industries Secretary will help to find a lasting solution to the problems faced by IL and its employees.

Mr. Sundareshan told ‘The Hindu’ over phone on Monday that he will in Palakkad on January 18, 2012 to inaugurate the three-day global conference and exhibition organized by Fluid Control Research Institute (FCRI).

The main theme of the three-day global conference is “Towards smarter and greener flow measurement and control” – Oil, Gas, Water etc., said Director of FCRI Commodore (Retd) S. Saseendran.

He said that 80 technical papers will be presented on flow metering by participants from different parts of the world. More than 300 experts will be attending it.

The exhibition will have a participation of over 55 companies from both inside and outside the country, he said.

This global conference is organized with the aim of keeping abreast the technological advancements and new trends in the flow industry and flow measurement priorities in the oil, gas and process industry sectors.

The Expo organized along with the global conference will focus on new trends and developments in technologies in the flow industry, he said.

The Director said that during the inauguration of the global conference three new laboratories of FCRI will also be inaugurated by the Heavy Industries Secretary Mr. S. Sundareshan.

They are Centre for Water Management; Larger Water Flow Test Laboratory and C.N.G. dispensation for auto metering.

The inaugural function will be addressed by Shashank Goel, Chairman, FCRI, S. Krishnan, Chairperson, Petroleum Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), Sheikh Saif, Composite Pipes Industry, Oman, Dr. Manus Henry of Oxford University, U.S.A among others.

FCRI was established in Palakkad by Government of India in 1984 with the technical and financial assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) as the executing agency and M\s Instrumentation Limited as the implementing agency on behalf of Union Ministry of Industry.
