The life of former Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) supremo Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal will soon be picturised into popular comics. The district committee of the Dubai Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) is taking the initiative as part of introducing Shihab Thangal to the children of the new generation.

Revered leader

An elaborate plan is on to convert various episodes of Shihab Thangal’s life into comic strips.

A widely revered socio-political leader with a strong spiritual backing, Shihab Thangal had displayed an exceptional thirst for peace and communal amity.

The Dubai KMCC chalked out the comic project during the third phase of the Sayed Shihab Thangal International Summit. “Our children should know who Shihab Thangal was,” said the organisers here on Saturday.

The story of Shihab Thangal will be picturised along with the history of Malabar. Episodes from his childhood life, adolescent life, campus life, political life and death will feature in the comic series.

Artist Ranjit Kumar from Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts will head the project.

Organisers said the book would be released next month.

Function held

Shihab Thangal’s son Syed Munawwarali Shihab handed over documents about Thangal’s life to the project team at a function held at Kodappanakkal house at Panakkad on Saturday.

Charity activities

The Dubai KMCC is holding a series of charity activities as part of the Shihab Thangal Summit. Drinking water kiosks were set up at all community health centres in the district during the first phase. A project titled ‘Aksharakkoott’ was implemented by providing study aid to poor children from 100 higher secondary schools in the second phase.

The KMCC is also planning publication of Shihab Thangal’s biography in Arabic, English, Urdu and Bengali.
