The Town Police on Tuesday arrested Rahanas (27) of Thayyil here in connection with the ongoing investigation into terror activities.
He was among the four youths who had been picked up by the police for interrogation a few days ago on the basis of information accessed after questioning suspected Leshkar-e-Taiba militant Thadiyantavide Nazir and his associated Shafas Shamsuddin. The police said that Rahanas was arrested for his active role in placing a country-made bomb at the Stadium Corner last year.
Earlier, the police had arrested R.M. Afsal by the Chakkarakkal Police here for illegally possessing explosive materials. The police said that he along with Sharafuddin (38) of Kannur city area was involved in keeping and supplying explosive materials used for serial blasts in Bangalore. Sharafuddin had been taken to Bangalore by the Bangalore police team which had come here with Nazir and Shafas Shamsuddin for collecting evidence to establish their role in the Bangalore blasts.
Muthalib Sakhafi (33) had also been among those taken by the police to question in connection with the investigation from Padappangat near Taliparamba.
According to the investigators, the explosive materials and weapons brought here in a clandestine way had been kept at the houses of Sharafuddin and Shafas Shamsuddin.
