Tension broke out at Trikkarippur in Kasaragod district as local offices of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) were attacked by suspected Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers in the early hours of Wednesday in retaliation for the attack on the CPI(M) local committee office there on September 21.

The IUML offices including the Bafakki Thangal Smaraka Soudham in the Trikkarippur town, C.H. Smaraka Soudham at nearby Vellap and at Thankayam came under attack at around 2 a.m. The offices were ransacked and set to fire. The police said that bombs were allegedly hurled at the office at Thankayam. A country made bomb was found from a nearby spot.

The area had been tense following the attack on the CPI(M) office. District UDF leaders K. Veluthambu and Cherkalam Abdulla visited the IUML offices at Trikkarippur.
