Police have arrested 10 persons, all working as migrant construction labourers without proper identification documents and papers, from Perumthuruth under Kaduthuruthy police. They are believed to be persons of Bangladesh origin from Satkhira district in Khulna Division on the India-Bangladesh border, police said after preliminary questioning.
According to police, they were taken into custody by 11.30 p.m. on Monday from their rented facility at Perumthuruth. Police have confiscated four cell phones and seven sim cards from them. The arrest comes in the wake of a tip-off to the State Intelligence Wing, sources said. Officers from the Intelligence Bureau have also questioned the suspects.
Police have noticed unprecedentedly large numbers of international calls from the area, including some to Pakistan, it is learnt. Police is also looking into the issue of human trafficking. The arrested will be produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Vaikom, on Tuesday evening, police said.
According to police, the ten arrested persons have been identified as Alamgir (32), Mustafa Alam (25), both from Noopur Ghata Village; Mohammed Al Mamoon (25), Mohammed Najmal Hussein (23), both from Raj Noopur village; Mohammed Sarvar Gaji (45), Shorulia village; Mohammed Zoyad Ali (42), Shonabadi Village; Mohammed Behul Hassan (20) Mohammed Veejaan , both from Kadu Danga village; Sheikh Yusuf Ali (45), Bhagpur Village and Mohammed Akbar Ali, 25, Gaiba Chandanpur.
