The staff on duty attached to various Government departments, Rapid Action Force of the Central Reserve Police Force and Travancore Devaswom Board, including the priests, have taken part in the daily one-hour cleaning drive called `Punya Poonkavanom’ at Sabarimala that began on Wednesday.

The temple Tantri, Kandararu Maheswararu, inaugurated the project.

N.Balamurali, Sabarimala Melsanthi; K.N.Eeswaran Namboodiri; Malikapuram Melsanthi; K.Padmakumar, Inspector General of Police and Sabarimala police co-ordinator; P.Vijayan, Police Special Officer at Sannidhanam and Sathishkumar, Devaswom Executive Officer were among those who took part in the cleaning drive aimed at making the holy hillock clean during the pilgrim season.

The scheme that ensure involvement of the staff on duty too in the efforts to keep the pilgrim centre clean was mooted by Mr Vijayan.

According to him, the cleaning drive will be a daily process from 9 am to 10 am through out the ongoing pilgrim season.

As many as 5000 employees are on duty at Sabarimala, besides not less 2000 workers and clening the pilgrim centre would never be a problem, if there was a concerted effort to that effect, he said.

The Rapid Action Force personnel deployed at the Sannidhanam have thoroughly cleaned the Appam-Aravana counter as part of the cleaning drive on Wednesday.
