Two days ahead of decision on KGS group excess land case

May 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

With two days left for the expiry of the deadline fixed by the Kerala High Court for taking a final decision in the excess land case filed against the Mount Zion Trust chairman, Abraham Kalamannil, who had sold a large extent of paddy land to the KGS Group, Taluk Land Board chairman M.J. Jaisingh has been transferred to Kannur.

According to official sources, the board was all set to take a final decision in the case on May 28. However, Mr. Jaisingh, who was also the Deputy Collector, declined to comment on his being shifted to Kannur. Mr. Jaisingh said he, in his capacity as the Land Board chairman, had reported to the government that the KGS Aranmula airport company had kept 107 acres of land in its possession against the maximum permissible limit of 15 acres as per the Kerala Land Reforms Act. He said the Land Board had already registered a case against the KGS group, for keeping 107 acres of land in its possession, on the basis of a complaint filed by V. Mohanan of Aranmula in the Kerala High Court.

Report sought

He said the Advocate General had sought a report from him on the excess land issue on the basis of the case filed by Mr. Mohanan in the High Court. The KGS group had 339 acres of land in its possession and of this 232 acres had been purchased from Mr. Kalamannil.

In May 2013, the Kozhencherry Taluk Land Board had declared the 132 acres of land sold by Mr. Kalamannil to the KGS group as excess land. The then Land Board chairman, A. Abdul Samad, too was shifted to Wayanad in the same month. Mr. Samad was adjudged the best Deputy Collector in the district by the Revenue Department in 2012-13.

The 132 ha of excess land include 232 acres in Aranmula, Kidangannur, and Mallappuzhasserry villages that have been sold by Mr Abraham to the KGS group for construction of the private airport. And now, the Land Board has identified another 107 acres in the possession of the group too as excess land.
