Abhijith Amalraj, a Plus One student of Netaji School at Pramadom, near here, has bagged silver in the junior category at the recent World Roller Games at Nanjing in China.

The 16-year-old was runner-up in the world championship held in Italy in 2016. He was the only Keralite in the 176-member Indian team for the Nanjing games.

Abhijith started bagging medals at the district and State-level artistic roller skating contests from 2004. The first national-level prize came his way at the National Roller Skating Championship in 2011.

From there, there was no looking back.

He won the gold at the national championships at Noida in 2012, a silver and bronze at the national event in Mumbai in 2013, a gold and bronze at the national event in Mumbai in 2014, besides a gold and silver at the 2015 National Roller Skating Championship. Abhijith gives full credit to his parents Biju Rajan and Suja Rajan who gave him all support.

Abhijith has mastered double jumps and complicated spins like camel spin, inverse camel spin, sit spin, combination spin, lay-over spin, etc. under the guidance of his coach Biju S. He masters the tough moves first, says the coach.

In ice skating, Amalraj won gold medal in the novice category at the Malaysian Open Championship in 2014. He won gold at the Asian Open Figure Skating Championship and at the Dubai Gold Cup championship in 2014. He also bagged two gold and two silver at the National Ice Skating Championship held at Gulmarg in 2015.
