KC(B) chairman to take up new post only then

Kerala Congress(B) chairman R. Balakrishna Pillai has said that now that his son and legislator K.B. Ganesh Kumar is loyal to the party, he should be taken back in the Cabinet.

Talking to mediapersons at his house at Kottarakara on Wednesday, Mr. Pillai said a Cabinet berth in the United Democratic Front government is the prerogative of his party.

“A Cabinet post for Mr. Ganesh Kumar and the chairmanship of the Forward Communities Development Corporation offered to me should not be mixed up,” he said adding that he will not accept the chairmanship if Mr. Ganesh Kumar is denied a Cabinet berth. “I have given it in writing that even if I take over the chairman’s post I need not be provided an official residence, police escort, and renumeration,” he added.

The KC(B) leader said the entry of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala into the Cabinet will only do good for the UDF government. Mr. Chennithala should be given not only a Cabinet berth but also the portfolio he asks for. He is an asset to the Congress. Under his leadership, the Congress has been performing well in all elections in the State.

Asked about reports of a cold war between Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Mr. Chennithala, the KC(B) leader said that even if it is true it is an internal matter of the Congress and he would not like to comment on it. “I would not like others intervening in the internal affairs of my party as well,” he added.
