Syndicate member seeks statute amendment for SC quota

May 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - MALAPPURAM:

Calicut University senior Syndicate member P.K. Supran has submitted a memorandum to Vice Chancellor M. Abdul Salam demanding an amendment to the university statute to ensure job reservation for Scheduled Caste candidates in aided colleges in the State.

Mr. Supran’s appeal has come in the wake of a High Court order directing the universities in the State to implement employment reservation for SC candidates in aided colleges under their jurisdiction. "The universities will have to amend their statutes to implement the High Court order. The University of Calicut is very positive to the idea. The Vice Chancellor has welcomed it and included it on the agenda of the next Syndicate meeting to be held on June 6,” Mr. Supran said. It was on May 25 that the High Court issued the order to the universities to amend their statutes to ensure SC reservation in aided colleges in the case number WP (c) 32393/2010.
