August 24, 2009 01:46 pm | Updated 03:26 pm IST - KOLLAM:

The district administration on Monday rushed a high level medical team to the Amrita School of Engineering campus after four students from the school hostel tested positive for A(H1N1) on Sunday. The school will remain closed till September 7.

Collector A. Shajahan told The Hindu that the medical team would conduct a comprehensive medical test on the students of the school and the hostel, especially those with whom the four patients had close contact with. On the basis of the test results it would be decided whether any of the students should be quarantined.

One of the students who contracted swine flu is from Bangalore and the others are from Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Shajahan said the district authorities would obtain the addresses of the four students and inform the authorities of those districts about the students.

The four students were under treatment at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. But on Sunday they were sent to their native places. This is the first incident of swine flu being reported from Kollam district.
