The State’s widest suspension bridge is getting ready for commissioning at Pandalam.
The Revenue Department has built the 70-metre-long, 2.5-metre-wide bridge across the Achencoil river, linking the grama panchayats of Pandalam and Kulanada at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.74 crore.
The State-owned Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company Ltd. (KEL) carried out the work. The bridge has turned out to be a hanging steel pathway linking the Valiyakoickal temple on the Pandalam side and the Sree Krishna Swamy temple at Kulanada.
The 70-metre long bridge will connect the Pandalam Palace and the Kaippuzha Palace on the two sides.
The steel suspension bridge is a major achievement of the Revenue Department, which has released the funds for the project from the Disaster Management Fund.
Concrete slabs have been laid on the floor pathway, and the two panchayats have constructed the bridge approaches and rubble masonry on either bank of the river.
