Suryanelli case: order on June 29

The Thodupuzha Sessions Court on Saturday posted its order on the Suryanelli woman’s plea for inclusion of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien in the sex scandal case to June 29.

The victim filed the private review petition on the basis of the lone convict S.S. Dharmarajan’s ‘revelation’ that he had taken Mr. Kurien to the Kumily guest house where the victim was raped. However, Dharmarajan had on May 28 retracted his statement in an affidavit filed before the court. In his affidavit, Dharmarajan said he had made the ‘revelation’ when he was inebriated and had not known Mr. Kurien personally.

Two other accused in the case, Jamal and Unnikrishnan Nair, whom Dharmarajan had earlier claimed to be witness to the incident, had contested his claim. Dharmarajan, in his affidavit, said that he had not owned a car at the time of the incident.

The Suryanelli victim moved the sessions court after the Peerumade First Class Judicial Magistrate Court denied her plea for a fresh inquiry in the case based on Dharmarajan’s statement.
