Survey to assess women’s safety

Indian Women Network (IWN), the women’s wing of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is conducting a survey to assess the safety and security of women in public places in the city. The IWN aims to support the implementation of the Nirbhaya scheme of the State government and the Kerala Police through the survey.

At a press conference here on Friday, Maithri Srikant, co-convener of IWN Thiruvananthapuram zone, said the survey was an opportunity for women in the city to voice their concerns.

According to a press release, the survey was aimed at assessing women’s perception about their safety and is designed on the premise that perception of safety is a state of mind.

“First and foremost, women should feel safe. They should be most comfortable while in the city. Some cities are perceived to be more safer for women. This is based on the crime rate in the cities and the measures taken to curb crime.

Steps taken against anti-social elements also help in strengthening the perception of security in the minds of women. This perception is of utmost importance to boost women’s confidence and moral strength,” said Ms. Maithri.

Respondents can log in through their gmail account and fill in their response at http://tiny.cc/t8xcrx by January 25.
