Suni seeks to give statement to magistrate

Says the story has reached only the halfway mark

Sunil Kumar, aka ‘Pulsar’ Suni, the key accused in the abduction and sexual assault of a female actor in Kochi, will soon approach the Judicial First Class Magistrate at Angamaly seeking to record his statement before the magistrate.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, B.A Aloor, counsel for Suni, said a petition to record Suni’s statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure would be filed in view of the possibility of more persons being arraigned as accused in the case. “The petition will be filed after due consultations with Suni. This is also because a statement given to the magistrate has more legal validity than those recorded by the police,’’ the counsel said.

Meanwhile, the Angamaly judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Tuesday extended the remand period of Suni till August 1.

When produced in the court, the counsel appearing for Suni made a plea seeking bail. The court is slated to hear the petition along with bail applications by his co-accused on July 20.

Responding to a barrage of queries by mediapersons outside the Angamaly court, Suni said that it was up to the `VIP in Aluva’ to reveal whether more people were involved in the case. “The story has reached only the halfway mark,’’ he stated.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team probing the case will be interrogating Vipin Lal, currently lodged at the Viyyur Central Jail in Thrissur. Vipin Lal, a former fellow prisoner of Suni at the District Jail in Kakkanad, had written a letter on behalf of Suni addressing actor Dileep, 11th accused in the case.

Besides Vipin, the police are set to interrogate a few others from the Malayalam film industry to bring clarity on the reported altercation between actor Dileep and the survivor, which had taken place at a hotel in Kochi four years ago.

The police had earlier found that the actor nursed a grudge towards the survivor for her involvement in the break-up of his previous matrimonial relationship. He even had an altercation with her during the rehearsal camp of a mega show, which drew intervention from other actors present at the spot.

Similarly, a controversy is raging over the visit of a person, apparently a murder accused, in the Aluva sub-jail two days ago, where Dileep has been lodged. `` It was purely a personal visit lasting just about half-an-hour. The person had come to meet the jail superintendent and it had nothing to do with Dileep,’’ officials explained.
