: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran on Tuesday said courage of conviction rather than numerical strength was important in politics and the party had taken up several issues that he had highlighted single-handedly.
Addressing a function to commemorate the fourth death anniversary of K. Karunakaran here, Mr. Sudheeran said he drew a lot from Karunakaran’s life because he had proved beyond doubt that courage of conviction was more important that numerical strength while wielding power.
In a veiled reference to his detractors, Mr. Sudheeran said his used to be the lone voice whenever he took up an issue. But later the party had taken up the matter.
He said Karunakaran had the broadmindedness to consult not only his supporters but also his opponents. He did this because he upheld the larger interests of the party. His contributions in the Opposition were responsible for the position that the party was enjoying.
Mr. Sudheeran wanted the State government to take a decision to name the Kochi International Airport after Karunakaran.
Apparently there seemed to be some technical problems, but these should be settled at the earliest, he said.
