Sudheeran lashes out at Rubber Board

April 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - KOTTAYAM:

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran has said the Rubber Board has forgotten its basic responsibility of safeguarding the interests of lakhs of small growers who are the backbone of the rubber plantation industry in the country.

Inaugurating the fast organised by the Joint Platform of Farmers’ Organisations here on Monday, Mr. Sudheeran said the total apathy the authorities had towards farmers was evident from the failure of the authorities to find a new chairman for the Rubber Board. He said the report prepared recently on the projected production and consumption of natural rubber was flawed and had affected the very credibility of the institution. “The Central government should take steps to ensure the credibility of the institution and also reconstitute the Board immediately,” Mr. Sudheeran said.
