“UDF election prospects won’t be affected by the adverse court references,” KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran said, addressing an election convention of UDF candidate K.A. Sheeba at Alathur.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran has supported the stand taken by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on the adverse references made against him by the Kerala High Court recently in the land-grab cases involving his former gunman Salim Raj.

Talking to presspersons at Chittilamcheri, near Alathur, on Sunday, Mr. Sudheeran said “the stand taken by the Chief Minister is the same as that of the ruling United Democratic Front. The adverse court references will not affect the prospects of the UDF in the Lok Sabha elections.” The Left Democratic Front criticism against the Chief Minister on the issue had no substance, he added.

Earlier addressing an election convention of UDF candidate K.A. Sheeba at Alathur on Sunday, the KPCC president said the main rival of the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections is the BJP and the communal politics represented by its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Mr. Sudheeran said “Mr. Modi is representing the ideology of Nathuram Godse who shot dead Mahatma Gandhi. Such people should not be allowed to grab power at the Centre as it will endanger the time-tested secular policy of the country and the very unity of the nation.”

He said the Gujarat Chief Minister “cannot wash of his hands on his role in the communal carnage in Gujarat. Even the Supreme Court came out against him on the carnage.”

Mr. Modi is the “worst Chief Minister of Gujarat. He had not done anything for the welfare of the people; his development initiatives were not meant for the common people,” Mr. Sudheeran said.

The KPCC chief said “the Congress is the only party in the country that can stop the danger Mr. Modi and his communal politics posed to the nation.

But the anti-Congress stand taken by the CPI (M) and other Left parties will weaken the secular forces and help the rightwing forces like the BJP.

The most pathetic situation is that the Left in the country lost their political direction now due to their blind ‘anti-Congressism’. They are still living in the old days and are not looking at the realities of the Indian State now.”

Mr. Sudheeran accused the Left parties of helping the BJP by trying to put up a third alternative, which would only weaken the fight against the communal politics.
