Student Police Cadet Scheme for State

May 26, 2010 07:30 pm | Updated 07:30 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The State Cabinet has approved in principle a proposal to introduce a Student Police Cadet Scheme in schools in the State from the coming academic year.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told the media after a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday that the scheme would be modelled on the National Service Scheme and the National Cadet Corps. The concept had been tried on a pilot basis in the last State School Kalolsavam (art fete) and found successful.

The Chief Minister said a pre-matric hostel for boys would be set up at Manjeswaram in Kasaragod district. Necessary posts for the hostel will be created.

He announced that 673 temporary posts would be created in armed police battalions for manning training programmes. A new police station will be set up at Panamaram in Wayanad district. Sanction will be accorded for the needed posts.
