A law student with meritorious academic records has alleged raw deal from the Kannur University as she is left to bide her time for nearly three months to get the answer papers she has flunked re-evaluated and scrutinised and to get a their photocopies.

Sangeetha Nath, a B.A. LLB. (Hon.) student in the 2006-11 batch at the Department of Legal Studies of the Kannur University on the Thalassery campus, said at a press conference here on Friday that she had failed in two papers – Conflict Laws and Taxation Laws – much to her disbelief when the results of the 10th semester examinations were published. She said that she had got distinction in her SSLC examination and 14th rank in the Plus Two examination and was a top-scorer in all the previous nine semesters of the LLB course.

Stating that the two papers in which she had failed were easy for her, she said that even if she had got minimum 30 per cent marks for the two papers, she would have got more marks than the student who had secured first rank.

Ms. Nath said that though she had applied for revaluation, scrutiny and photocopies of the papers, it was expected to take nearly three months. She said that the marks she had received earlier after revaluation of some other papers with lower marks were much higher than what she originally scored. Though the university Pro Vice-Chancellor had assured her that arrangements would be made to give her copies of the answer sheets at the earliest, the Controller of Examinations now says that the copies could be given only after the re-evaluation, she said.

She also said that she had joined the Civil Service Academy in Thiruvananthapuram after the examinations as she was fully confident of passing the papers with good marks. The university authorities should have considered her appeal as a special case considering her excellent performance in the previous examinations, she said adding she feared the uncertainty would affect her future studies.
