The catchment areas of Sabarigiri project, the State’s second largest hydro-electric project situated in the eastern forest areas of the district, have started receiving good rains.
Mohammed Ali Rawther, Kerala State Electricity Board member, said the catchment areas of Sabarigiri received a total of 441 mm rain fall during the past 13 days.
The Kakki-Anathode twin reservoir and the Pampa reservoir of the Sabarigiri project together received very good inflow that would be enough to generate 38.13 million units of electricity.

According to him, the reservoirs together have got water storage to generate 86 mu of electricity as on Friday morning.
The storage position during the same day in the previous year was only 62 mu.
Mr Rawther said 2.6 mu of power was generated at the Moozhiyar power house of the Sabarigiri project on Thursday. He said the Kakki reservoir and Pampa reservoir have received 41 mm and 38 mm rain fall respectively on Thursday.
Mr. Rawther said the new Generator-IV at the Moozhiyar power house, which was destroyed in a fire mishap on May 16, 2008, was getting ready for commissioning.
Open circuit test
The KSEB had successfully conducted the open circuit test and short circuit test on the new generator.
Steps to synchronize the work were fast progressing.
The board was planning to commission the generator in the last week of this month.
Mr. Rawther said the 30-minute load-shedding in the night across the State would be withdrawn soon.
