Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called for protests against attempts to fan religious intolerance, violate democratic principles, and sabotage parliamentary democracy.

Inaugurating the diamond jubilee of the All Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said education was being used to destroy secularism.

Textbooks were being used to promote communalism among children. The fact that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had been entrusted with revising textbooks indicated the dangers ahead. There was a propaganda under way that was contrary to science. Even those in responsible positions had offered such unscientific views. The message conveyed by such attempts should be looked at seriously, he said.

Minister for Education C. Ravindranath said finance capital had led to a change in education and research, leading to loss of values in education.

A. Sampath, MP, who is chairman of the welcome committee, AKPCTA president A.G. Oleena and general secretary K.L. Vivekanandan were present.
