Stir against GAIL pipeline continues

People block survey at two places

May 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - MALAPPURAM:

Protests against laying of pipeline by the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) continued at different places in the district on Monday as people blocked a survey being conducted with the help of the district authorities.

While the district administration said that problems were confined to only a few places and that the issues were by and large settled, the protesters pointed out that there were confusion and concern among the people who would lose their land for the gas pipeline project.

The survey was blocked at a couple of places in Ponmala grama panchayat on Monday. Local people aired concerns that they would not get a compensation of even half the amount shown in the title-deed.

The district administration has been trying hard to convince people that they would get half the amount shown in the title-deed. Sub Collector Amit Meena sought the cooperation of the people. According to him, the survey had to be done first, and the concerns can then be addressed.
