State Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishan has warned of stern action against perpetrators of communal violence in Kasaragod in the light of sporadic incidents in parts of the district that tend to sow seeds of mistrust among the by and large peace loving people.

Those found involved in fomenting communal frenzy and vitiating religious harmony would be named in the Goonda list and enhance severity of the punishment for the culprits, Mr. Radhakrishan said, inaugurating a seminar here on Sunday to bring public awareness against recurring communal violence that paved way for distrust among various sections of the society in the district.

The government intends to initiate stern action against perpetrators of communal violence and the society should be prepared to isolate those indulging in such activities, he said at the seminar titled “Kasaragodinu Enthanu Kuzhappam“ (What went wrong with Kasaragod) in the light of recent spate of communal violence in parts of the district.

The Minister said he would deliberate on the issue during a high level meeting of the district and police administration, he said.

There should be serious efforts to eradicate the menace of communal forces whose draconian perceptions should not be allowed to thrive in the State, Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

A cross section of the society firmly believes that those who indulge in communal clashes should be isolated and people from all sections be prepared to join hands to frustrate the evil designs of certain vested groups, the Minister said.

Mr. Radhakrishan also assured to take steps against those who perpetrate atrocities on other communities in the name of “moral policing”.

Steps would be taken to foster communal and religious harmony among the people of Kasaragod district which has multifarious society with varied cultural and ethnic traditions.

The seminar was presided over by Press Club President K. Vinod Chandran.

Among those who addressed the function held at the Press Club here are local MLAs P. B. Abdul Razak, N. A. Nellikunnu, E. Chandrasekharan, K. Kunhiraman (Uduma), social activists M. A. Rahman, Narayanan Periya, Congress leader P. Gangadharan Nair, K.
