The district-level Kadalora Jagratha Samiti (coastal safeguard committee) has decided to intensify measures for ensuring coastal protection.
An official press release on Tuesday said that the decision was taken at the committee’s meeting on November 20. Sea patrolling by the Coastal Police and on the shore by the local police would be strengthened.
It was proposed at the meeting that the local Kadalora Jagratha Samitis would be streamlined in this regard.
State Special Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police Pradeep Kumar called on samiti members to work in close coordination with the police in anticipation of threat of attacks from sea by anti-national forces. Such threats could be averted only if police personnel, government departments, and people living in coastal areas work jointly, he said.
Dispute resolution
The meeting decided to settle local disputes and other issues through discussions on the committee to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the coastal areas.
The police were urged to act on complaints about anti-social activities, including public drinking on beaches, in the district.
The meeting was presided over by Deputy Collector Shamin Sebastian.
