The government would depute a police officer not below the rank of Additional Director-General of Police to investigate sale of bogus lotteries in the State, Finance Minister K.M. Mani said here on Tuesday.
He said lotteries from other States were being sold in Kerala and the draw was being conducted in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Mani said the government had decided set up a State-level monitoring cell with Additional Director-General of Police (Intelligence) as chairman to prevent sale of bogus lotteries following seizure of bogus lottery tickets at Nedumbassery. Inspectors General of Police in charge of various ranges, Director of Lotteries, Joint Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Law) and Deputy Director of Lotteries would be its members. In addition, district-level monitoring committees were being formed with Collector as chairman. They would work in collaboration with the cyber cell of police.
He said that the State-level monitoring cells would be directed to submit monthly reports to the Home and Taxes Departments.
