Minister for Agriculture K. P. Mohanan has said that Kerala will host a conclave of State agriculture ministers in November to discuss a national organic farming policy.

Speaking after inaugurating a renovated water source, men’s hostel and hi-tech research and training centre at the Kerala Agricultural University’s (KAU) main campus here, the Minister said Kerala was chosen as the venue of the meeting because of the State’s progress in and commitment to organic farming.

“Safe-to-eat food is a primary requirement for the health of future generations. Our concerns and concepts have attracted national attention and the upcoming conclave is sufficient proof of it. KAU’s research backup is very relevant in this context,” he said.

KAU Vice Chancellor P. Rajendran, who presided over the function, said the University was committed to farmers and students. “The new facilities inaugurated by the Minister as well as those to be inaugurated in various campuses in the coming days are meant for students and farmers. We are trying our best to provide technical support for the State’s agricultural prosperity and the new varieties, technologies and research findings are ample proof of this commitment,” he said.
