Steps are on to implement the hunger-free Kerala project in Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha districts, Minister for Food and Public Distribution P. Thilothaman has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the World Food Day celebrations here on Wednesday.

The Minister said the Food and Public Distribution Department was aiming at providing quality food to the hungry at least once a day. The project, being taken up on an experimental basis, would provide food at low rates to those reaching from distant places for various needs and free food to the really needy.

He said a comprehensive project was needed for food security. The government was making serious efforts to ensure food security for the poor. The State should be able to increase food production for this. It should be everyone’s responsibility to growing whatever was needed within the State. It was also time to correct wrong eating habits, the Minister said.

K. Muraleedharan, MLA, presided over the function.
