State promoting casteist forces: Achuthanandan

September 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

Instances of people giving expression to communalism and casteism in the public were on the rise and the State government was openly promoting them, Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has alleged.

Mr. Achuthanandan was inaugurating the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Library at Prakkanam near here on Tuesday afternoon. He further alleged that such forces were trying to beatify Nathuram Godse and criticise Mahatma Gandhi. They were even building temples dedicated to Godse, he alleged.

Mr. Achuthanandan said village libraries were study workshops that have popularised democracy.

Kerala has to strengthen the institution of libraries and reading rooms in order to strengthen its social consciousness and literary instincts, he said.
