State prepared for GST: Isaac

The government is duly prepared to have a new tax regime that is expected to earn considerable gains for the State.

Being a consumer State, Kerala will benefit from the destination-based tax system. It will also help to check the flow of goods into Kerala from other States under the guise of own consumption. The right on service tax will be a major advantage to the State whose 65% revenue is from the service sector, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac said.

Unlike other States, Kerala has developed its own back-end module for implementing GST. Commercial tax check-posts will cease to exist.

Smart surveillance cameras will be installed at entry points to check tax evasion by traders who decide to evade integrated goods and services tax. The State could also ensure it by confirming whether goods vehicles entering the States have uploaded their invoices in the GST network portal. On detecting such instances, mobile squads can trace the vehicles and take action.

Dr.Isaac also mentioned about the creative role played by the State in the GST Council for protecting the interests of the State at large and also persuading it to adopt a fair tax structure.
