Says UDF government cares two hoots about people’s problems

Kerala has turned into a haven for criminals under the United Democratic Front rule, the former Home Minister and leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has alleged.

Mr. Balakrishnan was inaugurating a public meeting held in connection with the valedictory of the district meet of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) at Kozhencherry here on Monday evening.

The police could not even arrest the murderers of a policeman in the State, exposing the sorry state of the law-and-order machinery, he alleged.

He said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had committed a criminal offence by not handing over the complaint against Forest Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar filed by the Minister’s wife to the police.

The Chief Minister had not uttered a word when Government Chief Whip P.C. George made defamatory statements against senior Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samithi leader K.R. Gowri and the late T.V. Thomas, he alleged.

Had Ms. Gowri been a CPI(M) leader, Mr George would have been taught a lesson for making such statements against her, he added.

The CPI(M) leader alleged that the State was ruled by a government that seldom cared about the problems faced by the people.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation had cancelled as many as 2,000 services, leaving the common man at the receiving end.

P.R. Pradeep, district president, DYFI , presided.

T.V.Rajesh, State secretary, DYFI; K. Ananthagopan, district secretary, CPI(M); R. Unnikrishna Pillai, party State committee member; Raju Abraham, MLA; and Roshan Roy Mathew, district secretary, DYFI, spoke.
