Sree Ganesan of the St. Francis Boat Club, Harippad, won the 61 Nehru Trophy boat race in the Chundan category here on Saturday.

This is the second time in a row that Sree Ganesan has won the trophy, which has been described here has the Olympics on the Backwaters. However, Sree Ganesan won the trophy under the Kainakari Boat Club. The boat covered the race area of 1.25 kms in four minutes 33 seconds.

Kumarakom Boat Club’s Jawahar Thayankari came in the second place with four minutes and 50 seconds. UBC Kainakari’s Anaari came in the third place with a timing of four minutes and 51 seconds. Illikkulam of Kumarakom Vembanadu Boat Club came in the fourth place with a timing of four minutes and 52 seconds.

Kumarakom Village Boat Club’s Pyippadan came in the first place in the loser’s final and Devaas of Kollam Jesus Boat Club came in the second place.

Kochi had something to shout about as the Kochi Town Thannothithuruthu Boat Club’s Kottapparamaban came in the first place in the Veppu B Grade boats. Ambalakkadavan of Karunagapally Karunya Boat Club came in the second place.

Chiramel Thottukadavan of Mamkombu Pius X Boat Club came in the first place in the Veppu A grade boats and Punnathra Purakkal of Chennankari Lourde Matha Boat Club came in the second place.

Veliyanadu Jayashree Boat Club’s Moonnuthaikkal came first in the Iruttukuthi A Grade boats and Thaaniyan of Chennankari Vismaya Boat Club came first in the Iruttukuthi B Grade boats.

Governor of Kerala Nikhil Kumar gave away the trophies.
