According to health officials, the epidemics prevalence rate is more than that of last year’s rate during the same period. The spurt in fever cases even before monsoon has created concern.

Apart from dengue and leptospirosis, the officials are keeping vigil on Influenza A (H1N1) also. Though no Influenza A (H1N1) case has been reported from the district so far this year, 98 cases were reported last year. Eight persons died.

Jaundice is another threat looming large in the district. So far 152 jaundice cases have been reported from many parts of the district including Guruvayur and Veloopadam.

Health Department officials have requested the public to keep their surroundings clean and avoid drinking contaminated water.

Mounting garbage dumps have been causing concern in the district. In the absence of an effective waste management system, people are dumping garbage on road and at street corners.
